About Marybeth Melendez for 64th State Asssembly District
Marybeth Melendez has been a resident of Staten Island and Brooklyn for over twenty years.
As a single mother of three, Marybeth worked as a receptionist, legal researcher and a paralegal until she lost her eyesight to Retinitis Pigmentosa. After becoming unemployed, Marybeth experienced poverty first hand.
While raising three children, Marybeth decided to return to school. She graduated with a triple Bachelor of Arts at College of Staten Island and then went on to earn her Master’s degree in Mental Health Therapy.
Marybeth has been an active member of our community for many years. You may recognize her for her leading efforts after hurricane Sandy. But her work in the community began long before Sandy hit our shores.
Prior to Hurricane Sandy, Marybeth worked with many local non-profits, in addition to organizing and spearheading Vision of Hope Initiative.
